  1. How can a Smart Breeze whole house fan system help me and my home?
A whole house fan clears your home of un-wanted air.  It acts like a vacuum as it pulls the un-wanted air, hot, humid, smoky or smelly, from your home and replaces it with the fresh air from the outside.  The ventilation process of the Smart Breeze System eliminates the unhealthy, uncomfortable air in your home.  With the adequate amount of units, all the air in your home can be replaced with new fresh air, in less than 15 minutes. 2. How does cooling with a Smart Breeze whole house fan system differ from cooling with an air-conditioner?
The Smart Breeze house fan replaces the air in your home with fresh air from the outside.  An air-conditioner just re-circulates the same air over and over again while trying to cool it in the process.  This is very timely, costly and unhealthy. Top of Page
  3. Isn’t a whole house fan the same as an attic fan?
    No and Yes.
Unlike an attic fan a Smart Breeze fan exhausts the un-wanted air from inside your home and replaces it with the fresh air from the outside. In addition, just like an attic fan, a Smart Breeze fan will also expel all the hot unwanted air out of your attic through your existing attic vents. Top of Page
  4. What is the difference between a whole house fan and a ceiling fan?  Don’t they do the same thing?
A ceiling fan just moves/circulates the existing air in the room.  A whole house fan removes the air, whether it is hot, humid, smoky or smelly, and replaces it with fresh air. Top of Page
  5. Is the Smart Breeze System the same as an air purification system?
The Smart Breeze System was designed to replace the air in your home and attic with fresh air from the outside. The unwanted air will be eliminated and the fresh, more desirable air will be brought in. This ventilation process reduces the amount of dust, pollen and other particles that can cause illness and allergies to fester in your home. Top of Page
  6. Can you use an air-conditioning unit and a whole house fan simultaneously?
You would not want to have them on at the same time, but you can coordinate the use of them to benefit each other.  Use the whole house fan system when the temperature is comfortable outside, usually in the evenings, nights and morning hours.  Then if you should need to use the air-conditioner, you’re air-conditioner would be cooling a cool house and attic instead of a warm house and HOT attic.  This could save wear and tear on your air-conditioner and at the same time save you a substantial amount of money on your energy bills.  Your home can be comfortable 24 hours a day.Top of Page
  7. Why must there be a window open while operating the Smart Breeze fan?Top of Page
A whole house fan creates a vacuum effect in your home.  You must have a window open a least partially in order for the fan to be able to draw the air inside.  Otherwise, the vacuum/pressure it creates will find an opening, such as a fireplace or other vent that has access to the outside. 8. How is a Smart Breeze fan different from the other whole house fans on the market?
There are many features to consider:

Smart Breeze fans are smaller than the conventional whole house fan. They are only 16” in diameter. This enables a fan to be easily installed without any alteration of the attic. Estimated installation time is approximately 1 hour per unit. You will be able to place the fans in any of the rooms in your home that have attic access for a very customized ventilation system.
They are extremely quiet. You could compare them to the sound of your refrigerator. This feature will enable you to sleep, watch TV or have a conversation. You can operate the fans many hours during the day and all night while you sleep. Very low energy consumption. The specially designed low voltage motor uses a minimum amount of energy. An air conditioner uses 5000 watts of energy compared to 150 watts for a Smart Breeze fan. This energy efficient feature allows you to operate them many hours per day at a minimal cost. Smart Breeze fans have a Safety Thermal Overload switch mounted to the motor. They will automatically shut off if the fan gets too hot, vs.. burning up the motor or possibly burning down your home.
Smart Breeze fans are completely maintenance free. There are no filters to change or belts to replace.
Tight-Grip Fit – This feature insures a secure, snug fit between the ducting and the diffuser/vent. There will be no slippages at the opening to the ceiling that could allow for any un-wanted air to escape back into the home.Top of Page
  9. Where are the best places to install the Smart Breeze fans? You would place the fans strategically throughout the home. We recommend placing them in the rooms you use the most, such as the bedrooms and main living areas. Place them across the room from the window. This allows the fan to pull the fresh air across the room so you will feel the breeze. Top of Page
  10. Must I have an attic over every room where I install the units? Each unit is installed in the attic rafters. You must have attic access in each room. But because of the 6 feet of expandable ducting, you will be able to ventilate even those rooms with vaulted ceilings. We place the diffuser/vent in the top portion of the walls of these rooms and expand the ducting so the fan unit can be installed in the attic.  Top of Page
  11. How long does it take to install a Smart Breeze fan? We estimate approximately 1-1/12 hours per unit, depending on the switching options you choose remote control or hard wire. Top of Page
  12. Is there any maintenance required after the units are installed? The units are completely maintenance free. They are self lubricating and there are no belts to change or filters to replace. Top of Page

  16. How do I determine how many CFMs (Cubic Feet per Minute) I need for my house?
1 Level Home: Take the total of square feet of living space and multiply it by 2.5. For example, a 1000 square foot house would require fans of approximately 2500 CFM (1000 x 2.5) or about two fans.
Multi-Level Home: Take the total number of square feet of living space and multiply it by 2. For example, a 1500 square foot house would require a fan of approximately 3000 CFM (1500 x 2). Top of Page
  17. How much attic ventilation is needed for the fans?
To calculate the attic ventilation needed for your home, you may divide the your fan CFM by 750. If you have, say, 3,000 CFM fans, you will need approximately 3,000/750 = 4 square feet of attic ventilation area (soffit, gable, roof, ridge vents).
